It’s 8:05 on a muggy Friday morning in Kansas City but I am well ensconced in an air conditioned conference room. Every year, I am required to obtain fifteen hours (Missouri) and twelve hours (Kansas) worth of continuing legal education (CLE). These courses are offered through out the year but not surprisingly there is a huge influx of classes offered in June (June 30 is the last date to get your classes done). I generally sign up for UMKC end of the year because for $350, they offer several opportunities to get in the classes at different locations and are certified for both Kansas and Missouri.
I am attending the Review of the Law today which covers thirteen areas of law (family, criminal, labor, private, DUI, workers comp, Immigration) plus three sessions on ethics. It’s always interesting to hear about these areas of law and what has changed from law school and the previous years.
A lawyer can also get credit for CLE for preparing and presenting at these events.
